CUPE Local 87 has reached a tentative agreement with the City of Thunder Bay.

There will be a Negotiations Information Meeting at the Lakehead Labour Centre, 929 Fort William Road, on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.  For shiftworkers, the Negotiations Information Meeting will be held at the Lakehead Labour Centre, 929 Fort William Road, CUPE Boardroom – Room 6 on Friday May 18, 2012 at 9:00 a.m.

The ratification vote will be held at the Lakehead Labour Centre, 929 Fort William Road, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The 2012 Ontario budget, released on March 27, will increase poverty, kill jobs and hurt communities without fixing the economy. It includes cuts to almost every sector in a misguided attempt to eliminate the deficit.

Go to www.cupe.on.ca/budget and scroll down the right hand side to "Take Action". 

Click on "Take Action" and then go down three bullets to "Click Here to electronically message your MPP RIGHT NOW"

Fill in the required information and click on "Submit your letter" at the bottom.

We need to tell the Liberals that we do not like what they are planning in their budget.

 

Scholarship Awards

Two Scholarships of $350.00 each shall be given to two students of Local 87 members with the highest scholastic achievements over %65 in their final year of high school and who will be attending a higher education institution in the following academic year.

Applications must be submitted in written form, accompanied by final report marks to the Recording Secretary no later than May 11, 2012.

The recipients of the scholarships will be selected by the executive board.

Cupe 87 is one of the largest municipal Locals in CUPE with 620 members working for the City of Thunder Bay. Cupe 87 also represents members in Schreiber, Marathon, Ignace, Nipigon, Neebing, Shuniah, Conmee and O'Connor as well as Ontario Works employees in the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board.
